Speco Technologies
3 Months ago, I was lucky enough to receive an email from a marketing director from Speco Technologies. Their new regional sales manager and company wanted to know how they could help us to generate more action on the Speco Line. To make a story short, within a month I found myself on a Teams meeting with not Just the Vice President of Sales/Marketing and the stellar Sales Manager, but the Primary owner and his family – based in New York.
What did I learn (among many other things?
Speco is a family-run and very friendly business. They have a large US based Tech-support and Sales-based operation.
All servers and DNS provisioning happens on US based servers.
The Dashboard provides an amazing ability to administer customers systems preventing truck-rolls. It also gives professionals the ability to add a layer of RMR to their residual.
We toyed with the idea of UNV when they first brought their offering to the US years ago. We had just adopted HIKVision as our pre-dominant house-brand and we don’t like to throw too many options at our customers that are currently “shopping for brands.” When they came to town to visit with their North American Sales team, we found out quite a bit about the line. More importantly, we found out about some features exclusive to UNV that set it apart from other brands. Think of UNV as the brand that HIKVision was technologically destined to become.
What did we learn?
NOBODY does video compression like UNV. Their storage compression technology makes it easier to run video further, store more in less space, and easier to remotely access hi-resolution video. Their tech is called U.H.256 (or Ucode). Imagine the possibilities compared to other tech.
Their ColorHunter cameras have an f-stop on their images sensors of 1.0! That’s insane for any camera brand out there. What does it mean? A MUCH better video experience at low light than almost any other brand that we’re aware of (even HIK hasn’t achieved this level of low-light tech).
Superior AI tech built into their common recording hardware with ENHANCED AI features written onto their VMS based systems (like the awesome UNICORN). AI processing exists on both the camera, and the recording hardware. You can trigger specific events based on what cross where and how the crossing takes place (oh, ya, and you get Facial Recognition, Human Detection, People Counting, Auto-Tracking, and other powerful AI Features).
Digital Watchdog has been the little engine that could for so long that it’s found itself as one of the preeminent high-end surveillance brands. While they’ve recently delved into smaller-scale systems, they’ve been killing it on very large implementations for years.**. We LOVE Digital Watchdog.

Don’t get us wrong, their offering is very large. DWD is a very large US based manufacturer who has thousands of employees right here in the good ol’ USA. Their attention to detail and innovation in the surveillance industry are unmatched. We could talk all day about what we like, but here are the high points:
They are the creators of VMS Software. It’s true! There are others out there, but their code is so good it’s is being used by the likes of Hanwah and other major manufacturers. The Blackjack platform backed by their incredible IPVMS is the epitomy of large scale and top grade surveillance. For the nerds out there (like me), Blackjack gives you server side analytics for any video stream – this offloads processing done at end users workstations.
Megapix AI cameras are some of the best cameras on the market for quality and performance. They have built-in deep learning and in some cases you can create up to 40 seperate detection zones.
DWD’s VMAX ip G4 solutions are awesome stand-alone products that can be used in any environment you’d typically consider HIKVision products. No device licensing and other similar system architecture, but only with much better hardware and software. One feature we love is the ability to add channels to an existing system by daisy-chaining a switch on an existing port.
